DisasterLAN For University Of British Columbia's Emergency Management

The university of British Columbia Vancouver (UBCV) campus has a very unique set of emergency management needs.

UBCV is not only responsible for 50,000 students and over 14,000 faculty and staff members, but also the 9,000 residents of the University Neighborhoods Association and almost 600 buildings, homes, and facilities in and around the UBCV campus. The scope and variety of infrastructure means that UBC emergency management has expansive responsibilities for risk management, planning, and response.

The university is constantly reassessing its emergency management and was looking for a new technology solution for the Vancouver campus

FutureShield, DisasterLAN's Canadian partner, recommended DisasterLAN (DLAN), a scalable web-based incident management system, to meet UBC's Needs.

UBCV purchased the system in June and set up a rapid installation and training schedule to have the system up and running for the canada Summer Games 2014 Special Olympics July 8th-12th, which held most of its sporting events at UBC venues.

"We believe DisasterLAN will meet the needs of today's Vancouver campus and has the flexibility to adapt to the changing requirements of tomorrow," said Reg Fountain, Manager Emergency Management and Continuity Planning. "We have also been impressed with the support from BCG staff in tailoring this product to our requirements; as well as, in their support with its installation and the ongoing training of our Emergency Operations Centre staff"
