BCG & FutureShield Provide Rapid Implementation to Assist the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Prepare and Respond to COVID-19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Buffalo, NY – April 1, 2020 - As the COVID-19 pandemic began to sweep across North America, Buffalo Computer Graphics, Inc. (BCG) began to provide rapid implementation of their DLAN Incident Management System to multiple new clients across the US and Canada, including the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), Alberta, Canada.

Back in 2016, within RMWB, the Fort McMurray wildfire raged for over 2 months, causing mass evacuations and widespread damage. To date, it was the costliest disaster in Canadian history. In the aftermath of the incident, one of the recommendations for future disasters was to better engage and communicate with rural and indigenous partners in the region.

When Scott Davis joined RMWB as their Director of Emergency Management he came with a plan to improve communication and overall situational awareness throughout the region, including to outreach areas and first nations. As a previous user of DLAN, he knew that the software could meet the current and future needs of the region. He notes, “I was confident through my experience with Buffalo Computer Graphics and FutureShield that the DLAN product was a key resource in helping me fill that identified gap in providing a common operating picture across Canada’s second largest Regional Municipality.”

At the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak in North America, BCG put together a rapid implementation offering of their DLAN product. Davis took the opportunity to get a standard DLAN system quickly installed, configured, and activated in time to respond to the crisis. BCG was able to provide all services remotely, eliminating any risk of contamination for either team during the epidemic.

He states, “As the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo responds to COVID-19 over the next 4-6 months, prepares for the annual break-up of the Athabasca River in the next month, and prepares for the 2020 Wildfire season in a few months I am confident that the procurement of Buffalo Computer Graphics’ DLAN product will assist us in dealing with multiple threats at once. As a previous user of DLAN I have full confidence in the combined Buffalo Computer Graphics and FutureShield implementation, training, and ongoing support teams this made the decision to reengage an easy one.”

Davis took the opportunity to get a standard DLAN system quickly installed, configured, and activated so that RMWB could utilize the software for sharing information, collaborating on tasks, and improving situational awareness. FutureShield and BCG look forward to providing emergency management support to the region throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and any future events.
