City of Kingston, Ontario, Switches to DisasterLAN as their Incident Management

Buffalo, NY – February 21, 2017 - The City of Kingston in Ontario, Canada, has joined the growing number of Canadian cities to choose Buffalo Computer Graphics’ (BCG) DisasterLAN (DLAN) to meet their incident management needs.

The City’s former incident management software was not meeting their needs so they solicited the help of FutureShield, which is known for their expertise in emergency management software and has provided the City with help on other major technology purchases. Scott Davis, Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the City, noted that he has a great relationship with FutureShield and trusts them to provide both knowledge and project management support.

FutureShield suggested that they look at DLAN, a web-based, mobile friendly incident management system that provides tools for shared situational awareness, real-time communication, and after-action reporting. DLAN simplifies task, mission, and resource management based on IMS principles.

After getting glowing reviews from peer municipalities and getting to see the product for themselves the choice was clear. Davis noted that the intuitive nature of the DLAN was very appealing to him; creating incidents and tickets in the system was very easy. He also was very happy with DLAN’s support team and how knowledgeable and accessible they were.

Davis states that the key reason for the switch is their confidence in DLAN’s ability to meet their needs and BCG’s ability to provide outstanding support.

The City knew they made the right choice as BCG’s staff worked with them to fully implement the system and to configure it to mimic the City’s current workflow processes. DLAN is a web-based, mobile friendly incident management system that provides tools for shared situational awareness, real-time communication, and after-action reporting. It simplifies task, mission, and resource management based on IMS principles.

Davis noted that the ease of setting up DLAN to meet their needs made him very confident that the solution will be successfully adopted by his staff and will be a great benefit to them during their response and recovery efforts. With its robust set of tracking and reporting tools, DLAN will simplify the process of getting financially reimbursed for disasters. DLAN will also be very useful to them as the City Emergency Operation Centre transitions to an IMS based approach to emergency response and recovery.
